An accessible introduction to modeling spatial data with UML and INTERLIS, built around the fictional town of Ilistal. The 117-page book first introduces the basics of data modeling and model-based data transfer, then works through modeling principles using the running Ilistal example, and goes on to cover topics such as inheritance, data modeling in general, and the implications for software and data transfer. A closing chapter summarizes the key points for authorities and management.
Co-authored with Joseph Dorfschmid, commissioned by KOGIS/swisstopo. The textbook was written and published in German for a German-speaking audience — the PDF linked here is the original German text, not a translation. It alternates between the narrated Ilistal story and the underlying theory, so readers can go as deep as their interest and prior knowledge call for.
